This is why a small, intricate model can receive a different quote from a simple object of similar weight. Use the actual file or a sufficiently clear brief when asking for a firm price. A rough description is a starting point for discussion, not a dependable final estimate.

Why a per-gram price is only part of the answer

A per-gram rate can help describe material-related pricing, but it does not tell you the complete scope. Ask whether the quoted weight includes supports and whether there is a preparation or minimum job charge. For the same object, changes to size, internal structure and finish may alter both material use and machine time.

Before comparing two quotes, make sure they use the same units and assumptions. A total for one unpainted piece cannot be compared directly with a total for two painted pieces including delivery. Ask the partner to write down what the quoted amount covers.

Agree the design before production to reduce avoidable revisions. If you intend to order a batch, ask about printing one sample first and price the sample separately. Do not reduce important dimensions or material requirements just to lower the headline price when the object must perform a particular function.
